INFO

RD Amplification is a UK maker of handcrafted vintage-style tube amplifiers. I shot a set of lifestyle product photography for their website and social media—capturing the amps in a styled studio setting to showcase the craftsmanship, materials, and character of each build.

PROBLEM

Handcrafted, boutique amps live or die on perceived quality, and that's hard to convey in a flat product shot. RD needed imagery that did more than document the gear—it had to communicate the tactile detail of real craftsmanship (the tolex texture, the brushed metal badges, the grille cloth) and place the amps in a world that feels authentic to the players who'd buy them. Generic, clinical product shots would have undersold work this hand-built.

SOLUTION

I shot the range in RD's own studio space—a room already full of character, with reclaimed wood, vintage signage, and guitars on the walls. Rather than fight that, I worked with it: choosing a lighting setup that complemented the location and stayed true to the brand's vintage aesthetic, then staging each scene to place the amp at the heart of a real player's world rather than a catalogue listing. Controlled, moody lighting picks out the materials that signal quality—the weave of the grille cloth, the snakeskin and tweed coverings, the metal badging. The set moves from tight detail crops to full lifestyle compositions, giving RD a flexible library that works across hero website imagery and scroll-stopping social posts. The result is photography that makes the amps feel tangible, premium, and worth the craft behind them.
